Why seek a Neuropsychologist?
Seeing our children struggle in school, with friends, and at home can be quite troublesome. This is especially true when they seem to be trying so hard to succeed. If your child is distracted, forgetful, moody, having problems at school, or with friends, any number of things can be going on. A Neuropsychologist can identify and help you understand what is happening with your child so that he/she can get the help they need. A Neuropsychologist is a licensed clinical psychologist who has advanced training beyond a traditional clinical psychologist in the relationship between our brain and our behavior. This is because a neuropsychologist has specialized training in brain structure, brain function, and brain dysfunction resulting from injury, developmental delays, or disease. So a neuropsychologist not only is able to understand and treat emotional/psychological difficulties, but he/she is also especially qualified to understand an individualÕs pattern of cognitive development, and cognitive difficulties, using standardized neuropsychological tests.
Common reasons for consultation:
Suspected or known ADD/ADHD
Autism/Other Pervasive Developmental Disorders
Traumatic Brain Injury/Concussions
Social Skill Weakness/Low Self-Esteem
Problems with friends/Bullying
Dr. Pancholi sees patients at Fairfax Pediatrics Associates' Greenbriar office (see below for address) on Wednesdays. The initial appointment is typically 1.5 to 2 hours, with 60 to 75 minutes spent with parents and 30 to 45 minutes spent with the child. If your child is 7 or younger, the initial appointment will be completed on 2 separate days, so that your young son/daughter does not have to wait in the waiting area on their own. If your child is 8 or older and is capable of waiting in the office waiting area on his/her own, then the initial appointment will not be split into 2 different days.
